Azure Stack Windows 2016 license not activated RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Similar to forum https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/azure/en-US/bc3bf7b8-2ca7-4cab-b2f1-055865936667/azure-stack-windows-license-not-activated?forum=AzureStack   We have the same issue.

We are running an Azure Stack multi nodes, 1805, and we created a Windows2016 VM but the message License ot activated is always present.

I did not see such issue in the release notes.

Thanks to advise as this is for a future Azure Stack customer Proof of Concept

    Kind regards

  • Azure Stack uses Automatic VM Activation (AVMA) to activate Windows Server virtual machines (VMs).

    • Azure Stack host activates Windows with AVMA keys for Windows Server 2016. All VMs that run Windows Server 2012 or later are automatically activated.

Generally, Azure VM activation issues occur if the Windows VM is not configured by using the appropriate KMS client setup key, or the Windows VM has a connectivity problem to the Azure KMS service (kms.core.windows.net, port 1668).

Are you leveraging ‘Windows Server 2016 Datacenter Eval’ image as mentioned in this document (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-stack/user/azure-stack-quick-windows-portal)?

  • Thanks.

We are using Windows Server 2016 Datacenter

Is there an issue with that one ?

  • If this image is from the marketplace (add from Azure), and you are running on an Azure Stack Integrated System, your image should activate with no additional work. From the deployed Windows VM, run the command "slmgr /dlv" and post the results.

If you are trying this on an ASDK, it will not activate. That is by design. ASDK is strictly for evaluation purposes.

If you built your own image, let us know that too.

  • Hi,

We finally apply one license to that VM so that the POC could continue as this was urgent.

We will test later on , we are on an integrated system, We will test your command and send you the answer on another VM this week, thanks for your support !
