Unable to connect to Database SQL Server 2000 RRS feed

  • I am trying to access a database but I am getting an exception of 

    Message = "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.

    While i have successfully connected to the same Database from server Explorer and from UDL and from DSN.

    i am using Windows 7 64bit, visual studio 2010, My project is on .net 2.0

    Database is sql server 2000.

  • Maybe because the SQL 2000 native connection client is 32-bit only. VS2010 is 32-bit IDE so it can see the native client, your process compile as "Any CPU" runs as 64-bit therefore cannot.

    Try install the 64-bit connection client from SQL 2005/2008, they can be used to connect SQL2000. If for some reason you can't, try to set your "Target Platform" in your project configuration (You may need to check "Tools" -> "Options" -> "Project and Solutions" -> "Show advanced build configurations" to see it) to "x86".
