No USB kernel-debug cable on Internet RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear MS,

In Setting Up Kernel-Mode Debugging over a USB 2.0 Cable Manually, it is stressed

“This cable is not a standard USB 2.0 cable because it has an extra hardware component that makes it compatible with the USB2 Debug Device Functional Specification. You can find these cables with an Internet search for the term USB 2.0 debug cable.”

Do you have a list of such cables made by major companies with tested reliability?

  • USB 2.0 debugging was never reliable, and is no longer supported in current versions of Windows.   So no you are not likely to find a cable except as a used one on an auction site.   If you are looking at older Windows seriously look at whether you can use serial or 1394, even on the best of times USB 2.0 would work one boot, then fail the next 5!
