Failed to initialize disk - the service's cache has become corrupt RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am working on a storport miniport driver for a disk device.  When attempting to create a volume or initialize the disk I get the error "Failed to initialize disk - Unspecified Error.  Extended information: The service's cache has become corrupt."

I've enabled additional logging in the Event Viewer (analytic, diagnostic, debug logs in Kernel-Disk, StorPort, Kernel-IoTrace, Kernel-PnP) but I don't see any warning or error events, or even events that might have error status in their Details.  I noticed in my deubg prints that I get read capacity and mode sense requests (SCSIOP_READ_CAPACITY, SCSIOP_MODE_SENSE) during the attempted disk initialization and they seem to be the last thing that the driver sees before the error pops up on the screen.  Would incorrect data in these functions cause the error I am seeing or is it likely caused by something else.

Thank you so much for any suggestions!
