Remote Desktop - Accessing Sound Card RRS feed

  • Question

  • I know, it's not a virtual environment, but the question sort of fits - hang with me...

I have an unattended Server 2008 machine that has a sound card.  If I cable it for a KVM, and log in through the console, Windows Media Player runs fine and plays sound.

However, if I remote desktop in from another machine, Windows Media Player errors out with "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.".

How can I get Windows Media Player to access the sound card when used in Remote Desktop?

    Thanks!  -- Curt
