Hard Disconnects RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a split database application.  Front-end is on the user's PC and BE is on a network share.

Recently, I'm starting to receive a number of BE "unrecognized database format" errors (typically caused by a network disconnect) from users.

So far, the solution has been to change the Sleep Mode and HDD Shutdown settings in the user PC from 10  minutes to "Never".

Question: Any other Windows 10 settings (that could cause a hard disconnect) I should be aware of?

    Thanks!

  • Well, there is the Leasing bug, of course: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/access-reports-that-databases-are-in-an-inconsistent-state-%ef%bb%bf-7ec975da-f7a9-4414-a306-d3a7c422dc1d

If users leave the app running while they are away, maybe you can gracefully shut them down: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/vba/access/Concepts/Miscellaneous/detect-user-idle-time-or-inactivity

  • This is a well known bug caused by a Windows 10 security update that Microsoft has yet, 2 years in now, to provide a proper fix to.
