OnPrepareHardware not getting called!!! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I am new to windows driver development. I am trying to write a USB driver for one of our devices.

Driver is loaded successfully and onDeviceAdd went through no error. (I verified by logs as well as by debugging)

After that onPrepareHardware() is not getting called.

    I get CM_PROB_FAILED START error in devapi.log.

Please suggest what may be wrong. Does PnP communicate anything with the device before onPrepareHardware() function??

I can post logs or inf file if required. Please help

    Regards,

    Atish

  • How did you install the driver? If you used devcon install, you installed your driver on a root enumerated device, not a USB device. Use devcon add. If you used device manager, don't use the add new HW wizard, right click on the device and choose update driver. More importantly, you can skip a custom driver altogether and use winusb and an app to drive your device in many scenarios
