Metro Java Feedback RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi, I spent some time creating this UI concept and am looking for feedback. I'm four months into my first programming class which teaches java (only language available), so I couldn't make it using metro tools but made it in metro style. It is unfinished and not meant to be very functional, but I would like some critiques as I am making it to improve my GUI building skills. Should be able to run .jar by double clicking it.

  • May I suggest that you post some screenshots instead of the jar? AFAIK, it's a Java-specific format and we're (mostly) Windows people here...

  • Java can run on any OS with the java virtual machine installed (basically all of them) so you can run the jar, although I don't know what the command prompt command is, on windows I can run it by double clicking the jar, on mac "java -jar (drag file in here)" works to launch it.

third image is example of scrolling.

I am in the process of adding more tiles and making it possible to create them yourself.

  • Yeah, sweetie, no so much "can't" run Java as "won't".

So what's the green drawer on the left doing? It looks like you can't quite decide whether it should overlap or push aside. Questions like that can't be evaluated without knowing why the user is expanding the drawer.
