Enable TCP/IP and Named Pipes, Enable the xp_cmdshell RRS feed

  • Question

  • The vendor of a software product we are using recommends that we:

    Enable xp_cmshell

I think I know how to do this:

-- To allow advanced options to be changed.

EXEC sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1

    GO

-- To update the currently configured value for advanced options.

    RECONFIGURE

    GO

    -- To enable the feature.

    EXEC sp_configure 'xp_cmdshell', 1

    GO

-- To update the currently configured value for this feature.

    RECONFIGURE

    GO

But what about Enabling TCP/IP and Named Pipes...

Isn't that enabled by default on practically 100% of the computers on this planet now?

Or is the "named pipes" part something special?

I've got TCP/IP checked in the NIC properties and that's all I can tell you.

Please advise... and thank you in advance!
