Transaction errors: Aborting transaction on session XXXX RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are having one single cube and processing it using SSIS packages.

Whenever we process any partition we recieve "Transaction errors: Aborting transaction on session xxxxx." for some time in the trace and after some time the actual processing starts. The normal processing used to take around 5-7 min but since we started getting this error, the processing takes around 20min some time 45-50min as well.

We tried to restart the SSAS services but still we get the same issue.

I have browsed through few forums and did not find any permenant fix neither a workaround.

  • is your  analysis service task configured for parallel transactions . if yes then try processing the cube in  one transaction

  • Thanks Dhruv,

The partition process is done through SSIS packages.

When we do a full cube process, we don't see this sort of error.

however when we do partition process, we get this issue.

It is drastically hampering the run time of the process jobs and so hampering the reports which are built on top of the cube.

I have gone through few blogs and almost all of them suggest to restart the services which is not possible in our scenario as we have live users who are using the reports during the day time.

Any suggestions for a non-outage resolution or workaround?

  • Hi KunaIBIG,

Please help to collect SSAS error log information for troubleshooting Analysis Services issues.
Data collection for troubleshooting Analysis Services issues: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/as_emea/archive/2012/01/02/initial-data-collection-for-troubleshooting-analysis-services-issues.aspx

In addition, please open SSMS and connect to SSAS instance, and then run the following query to monitor the session status:
    select * from $system.discover_sessions
