Searching for specific text in different files in VB .NET

Hi,

 Friends can any one help me how to earch for text in different files in VB .NET. I used Stream Reader and also My.Computer.FileSystem.FindInFiles. They just helped me finding my text in "*.txt" files only,

What i want is that i can search through *.doc, *.docx, *.xls, *.xlsx, *.pdf etc.

Same as in windows search.

hope someone will help me finding out the solution.

If you want to search for strings of text in those types of files, you need to use components that can open and read them.  The Office documents are relatively easy.  You can use Office Interop to open and parse the files, or Indexing Service: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms689718(VS.85).aspx.  For PDF, you can use Adobe's IFilter: http://support.adobe.com/devsup/devsup.nsf/docs/52174.htm

Or you can use this wrapper for Google Desktop: http://desktop.google.com/plugins/i/dotnet1.html

You cannot do it with VB alone.
