How to test roaming settings?

    Question

  • I have 2 developer machines both connected to the same Windows account. However, the roaming settings are not available to both machines. Each machine (after a redeploy of the app) has an empty roaming setting for the app.

Or can only store installed apps use the roaming feature? If so, how are we supposed to test roaming settings?

  • Roaming should work without being installed from the store.

Can you successfully roam with other apps? With the Application data sample ? How exactly are you testing that roaming settings aren't available? Roaming isn't instantaneous: it can take some time before the roamed data will be available.

  • Hello Rob, thanks for answering. I have tried to deploy my app to different tablets, all connected to the internet, yet the roaming settings (a boolean value) have not been synchronized. I closed the app and even logged out on both devices and let them stay in that state for a while.

Have not tried the Application data sample yet. Will do.

  • Hi Phil,

    How did the test go?

    Notes:

      • Ensure you are using Microsoft accounts when you install/run your app so the roaming can take place.
      • Ensure both machines are trusted in your Microsoft Account page (https://account.live.com/Proofs/Manage)

  • Have not tested it yet, Jeff. Had to implement another cool feature first :) But I did not have both machines trusted in the Account Page. Will do that and try again.
