December CTP install failure RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Steps taken

    1. Install VPC on standard disk size (yes, it is too small, but this was a test run)
    2. Install Windows Server 2003 R2
    3. Updated all patches
    4. Install Domain Controller (with DNS) role
    5. Add domain accounts
    6. Install Application Server Role
    7. Install .NET Framework 2.0 (probably out of order, next run will be before App Server role)
    8. Register ASP.NET 2.0 (aspnet_regiis /i)
    9. Install ADAM (assume this is still needed)
    10. Install Certificate Server and add SSL Certification - not necessary for install, but an intregral part of our needs
    11. Install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise - RTM
    12. Install WSS 2.0 - Add/Remove Windows Components
    13. Install Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite - RTM
    14. Install TFS - FAILED

    Next Steps

    1. Manually add roles for TFSService in SQL Server 2005
    2. Retry with larger fixed disk

  • Sorry for your difficulties.

We have seen numerous problems trying to install TFS on the same machine as a Domain Controller.  There are a number of additional steps that you will need to take to get this to work: see http://blogs.msdn.com/robcaron/archive/2005/10/05/477565.aspx

Also rather than installing a DC, TFS single server install will run in a Workgroup - i.e. there is no need for a domain to be present.

The requirement for ADAM was removed in B3.

    Thanks,
