PivotViewer from Silverlight RRS feed

  • Question

  • In my opinion, PivotViewer is one of the best controls in Silverlight.  I wonder if there is support for the same control in Metro.  What's the recommended alternatives?  Thanks!

  • You might want to take a look at SemanticZoom.

I also recommend watching this BUILD session about the built-in controls for Metro-style apps. It might give you some ideas on how to achieve a similar effect for navigating your data.

  • We really need some kind of tab or pivot control. SemanticZoom or the FlipView are no alternatives for a tab or privot control. Please do not recommend these things and either tell us these controls will be available in the future or Microsoft has no time to create these controls and we have to wait for 3rd party controls. The current control set is really limited in many ways for LOB developers.

  • Thanks for the pointer.  SemanticZoom is an alternative but still no match to PivotViewer.  What I like about PivotViewer that SemanticZoom doesn't provide:

    * Write very little code to have comprehensive features: filter, sorting, details view, search, bar charts etc etc.

In order to provide the same feature set, I think I need to write much more code for SemanticZoom.  Also in order to do filtering, it seems I have to manually add more drop down boxes and communicate the drop down box results to SemanticZoom control.  On the contrary, filtering and search are built in for PivotViewer and I don't have to do extra work.
