VS2015 Designer view can't be used

    Question

  • Today, I just updated VS2015 update 1 and get Universal App tool installed. I created a blank project and the designer view can't be used. No error what so ever. There is a notification says XAML designer requires Windows Update. But my machine is up to date. My developer mode is on of course.

I can't include image in this post saying they have to verify my account. LOL.

  • Hi Mr.Swift,

I have encountered this problem a few times before.

To solve the problem. You may need to set the Target Version of your Universal Windows to “Windows 10(10.0;Build 10240)”

Right click your project->Properties->Target Version. Select Windows 10(10.0;Build 10240).

Then reopen your Mainpage.Xaml. You will see the designer view

  • My target version currently now is Windows 10 (10.0; Build 10586)

There is no option for me to change to other versions.

My notification from VS2015 are the following

Microsoft SQL Server Update for database tooling

    Microsoft Azure SDK 2.8.1

An update to Microsoft ASP.NET and web Tools

    XAML designer requires Windows update

It did say that the target version of windows 10 platform is newer than the current version of windows.

But it says my machine is up to date when I check updates with Windows Update.

My target version of the universal app sdk is Build 10586 but my windows is still on 10240.

How can get older version of the sdk?

  • Hi Mr.Swift,

    Thanks for your quick response.

What’s your  project language, C++,C# or VB?

Could your share us a screenshot of your Visual Studio installation screenshot?

Please modify your Visual Studio. Control Panel->Uninstall a Program->Right click the Visual Studio. Click “Change” then click Modify.

Following screenshot is the installation configuration of my Visual Studio.

Please check it in your side.

    Best Regards,
