.Net Framework general uninstal question RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was working on uninstalling and cleaning out some things on my computer today and saw I have 3 versions of .NET installed

Just to give you an idea on where I stand

I have no idea what .Net is or does I just know that 2 of the versions take up over 150mb on my computer

    Can I uninstall them all?

Can I uninstall them all minus the latest?

will this effect the way XP runs?

    the 3 versions are

    1- .NET Framework 2.0 Service pack 2 (183.0 MB)

2- .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack (179.0 MB)

    3- .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 (19.39)

can I uninstall #1 and #2 and windows not be effected?

    thanks

  • Hi Zddh13,

    Thank you for your post.

The .NET Framework is an integral Windows component that supports building and running the next generation of applications and XML Web services. In brief, we need .NET Framework to support .NET application on our machines.
Thus, referring to removal of any versions of the .NET Framework on Windows XP, it depends on the applications that are run on your PC.

.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 includes .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.0 SP2. If you want to keep .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 on your machine, .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0 cannot be removed because they are the prerequisite of .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.

If you are sure that you have no .NET Framework based application on your machine, you can remove all of three frameworks from Control Panel. This will not affect your OS.

Hope this helps! If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.

    Best regards,
    Yichun Chen
