Remote Blob Storage - File size limitations? Still 2GB? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've got a client who needs to store 80GB files. I know the limit for SharePoint 2010 is 2GB.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/opal/archive/2010/03/24/faq-sharepoint-2010-remote-blob-storage-rbs.aspx

Do you know if there is a solution to store bigger files using a third party software like DocAve Extender?
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Hi,

The file size limit of RBS is still 2 GB, this is set by SharePoint.

  • Specifically, the 2GB limit is enforced with the SharePoint OM and limited by the SharePoint DM...the Size column in AllDocStreams is a signed Long which can't hold a numeric value larger 2,147,483,647.  EBS or RBS have no impact on this.

  • I realize this is a very old thread but it remains an issue for anyone who wants to use SharePoint to manage 3D CAD files, software builds or rich media libraries. Metalogix StoragePoint v4.1, our EBS/RBS/SharePoint storage optimization solution, available March 11, 2013, will add support for files over 2GB.
