Building for Windows 8 on a Windows 8.1 machine.

    Question

  • I'm still working on a game designed for Windows 8. I upgraded my machine to Windows 8.1, but I still want to target those on Windows 8. Can I develop on for Windows 8 on my Windows 8.1 machine. If not, is there a way to downgrade the OS back to Windows 8.  Of course, I'm using VS 2012.

    Thanks.

  • I had a similar problem.

    1/ Try rebuilding the project.

2/ Load latest Windows SDK, this also has WACK 3.1

  • Any app built for Win8 should work on Win 8.1

I have written a couple of games. A difference I found was 8.1 has a variable snap mode which the game screen needs to resize to.

You will also need to look into Trim() which is involved with Win 8.1 memory management.

  • Building on my Windows 8.1 machine gives me this error:

The application requested an operation that depends on an SDK component that is missing or mismatched.
