Report item not linked to a dataset RRS feed

  • Question

  • All,

I am trying to generate a label in vb.net 2005 using its reporting capabilities.  I have dynamically generated two datasets from two different databases.

My problem is when I go to add a field in an expression, the fields section says "Report item not linked to a dataset."  I do have datasets, but they only give me the first field or a sum of the fields if numeric.

I have generated other reports in various vb.net applications and not have this problem.  How do I link the databse fields to my report?

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Hi Chipper55,

I am not sure of your exact problem. But it is possible that you need to add the dataset scope to the expression? Something like Sum(Fields!Field.Value, "DataSet1").

Also, make sure that you are adding the field in the details section of the data region, not the footer or the header.
