FTP Adapter - 1Kb file is delivered empty 0Kb. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings all,

My simple application uses the BizCrypto adapter to encyrpt a file to PGP using a customers public key. A receive port monitors a folder where a file is dropped. A send port using the BizCrypto adapter, drops the encrypted PGP file in another folder. To test the encryption, I used an FTP client, logged onto the clients site and dropped the encrypted file. They were able to decrypt it.

    Additional Info:
The file picked up is .txt extension
The file created is .pgp extension

Now I want to use BizTalk 2010's FTP adapter to monitor the file where the encrypted file is delivered and deliver it to the clients FTP site. I've successfully done this however the file which starts out as 1KB in size when picked up is delivered as 0Kb to the ftp site.

    Additional Info:
    The pipelines are all PassThruTransmit.
The extension of the file picked up is .pgp
The extension of the file delivered is .pgp
I've tried a number of naming conventions to see if it makes a difference:
         %*%
         %*%.pgp
         %MessageID%.pgp
         %MessageID%

Any thoughts about what might be causing this issue?

Thank you in advance for your assistance! Happy Holidays!

    Richard

  • Hi Richard,

What kind of FTP server are you transferring the file to? Is it windows based or something else?
Maybe this is a locking issue. You could try to atomic file transfers. This will write the file to a temp location on the ftp server first and after that move it to the destination folder.

Is there anything in the event log? You can also configure logging for the ftp adapter. This will allow you to see what happens on the BizTalk ftp adapter side.

What is the configuration of the FTP Adapter?

  • Thanks for responding Randal.

The FTP server type is unknown. My guess is that it is a not a windows based as it is a Bank we are transferring file to.
I'm dropping files at the root level...no folder.

I'll check the event log. I did not configure the FTP Adapter so I'll confer with that developer and request that logging be configured. (Unless I can figure this out without his assistance)

I'm new so there is much I need to absorb. I'll use your suggestions and narrow down the issue further.

    Thanks again.
