Launch app from LockScreen RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a way to add an extra button or link to the lock screen, so it can still run an app while locked (and when closed return to lock screen, etc)? I want to create an emergency contact info app (for free), so it has important information like name, DOB, blood type, allergies, medical conditions, emergency contact, etc etc. But it is pretty useless to anybody that is trying to help you if your phone is locked and they can not get access to your phone. Or, Microsoft could include this feature in an update (emergency information access from lock screen) and I not make the app!

  • Hi ErlenSoft,

This is not possible and here's a possible reason why this decision was made.  The WP7 app environment is carefully sandboxed, due to potential vulnerabilities in the large WP7 consumer target market.
A malicious programmer could hide a mechanism in an app that bypasses the personal password, making it possible for anybody who knows about the vulnerability to use your phone.

Though as you suggest, the emergency mechanism might be doable if implemented directly in the OS image by Microsoft and/or the OEMs.

    Hope this helps,
