New Windows 10 Map for HTML/Javascript app RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there any word on if/when the new mapping capabilities will be available for HTML/Javascript store apps? I've seen several references on how to use the new controls in XAML/C# but no mention of an updated AJAX version for use with HTML/Javascript apps. Does anyone know if this is coming and when? I have an existing app that uses the AJAX version of the map control extensively and am hoping we don't have to rewrite the app in XAML/C# to take advantage of the new mapping features.

    Thanks!

Answers

  • Correct, there is no plans to add the new features in the native Win10 map control into the JavaScript version. Frankly, most of the new features can't be done in JavaScript with good enough performance to justify all the work required to make a new control.

  • Your app should work in Windows 10 today. There is no new HTML JavaScript control for Windows 10.

  • Yes, I know that the app still works. I meant to ask if any of the new features introduced in the Windows 10 map control will be added to the AJAX version as well. From your response, it sounds like no. Is that correct?
