  • Hi Girish,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

Since you already installed the VS 2015 community/professional/enterprise with update 2, if you want to upgrade to the VS 2015 update 3 through the unattended installation, please have a look at this document:  How to: Create and Run an Unattended Installation of Visual Studio

    1. Download Visual Studio Update 3 or download the VS 2015 community/professional/enterprise with update 3 from here per your current installed VS 2015 version.
    2. Run the cmd as administrator and type the command to create the AdminDeployment.xml file by using the /CreateAdminFile <file location> command-line parameter
    3. Open the AdminDeployment.xml then we will confirm the VS update 3 already auto selected like the following, which means you can directly use the default AdminDeployment.xml file to deploy or install Visual Studio in unattended mode to upgrade to VS 2015 update 3.

    Best regards,

    Sara

  • Thanks for the reponse but we are facing an issues with the update 3 installation.

We are using only Update 3 package instead of VS with update 3 and when we pass the admindeployment.xml file to the installer  we get the below error

[19F8:1790][2016-11-24T18:06:18]e000: MUX:  /InstallSelectableItems cannot be used with a language pack or servicing bundle or administrative install or /full install or /AddRemoveFeatures
[19F8:1790][2016-11-24T18:06:18]i000: MUX:  Set Result: Return Code=1603 (0x643), Error Message=Invalid command line, Result Detail=Invalid command line,

When we update without the switch /AdminFile admindeployment.xml .It works fine

    Thanks

  • Hi Girish,

    Sorry for the later reply.

Refer to the error message, it looks like this unattended command not matches the VS 2015 update 3 or with update 3 installer, I found a related document here: Using Command-Line Parameters to Install Visual Studio and there is a note as below:

Make sure that you use the actual installer and not the bootstrapper file. For example, make sure you use vs_enterprise.exe instead of vs_enterprise_GUID.exe. You can download an installer from My.VisualStudio.com.

You can use the actual installer like VS_community/enterprise/professional.exe per your installed VS version to have a try with this command again.

    Best regards,

    Sara
