365 and C2R RRS feed

  • Question

  • 365 C2R - click to run ….   does classic locally installed Access .mdb or .accdb or .accdr or accde file types of prior editions: 2010, 2007.... operate okay?

I had thought that Office 365 was essentially an annual rental of a traditionally installed Office product - - but this C2R terminology has me confused.  Would welcome some education.

  • It's confusing to everyone!  Office 365, Office 2016/2019, MSI, CTR, Perpetual license, subscription based, 32-bit, 64-bit, update channels, ...  it's turned into a circus!

Your understanding is accurate.  Office365 (which is CTR) is simply a subscription version.  Office 2019 is a perpetual license version.

Office 2019 is a point in time snapshot of Office365 which will only get bug and security updates, no feature updates.  While Office 365 will continuously get improvements.  Or at least that is the current plan from what has been shared with us to date.

Yes, both should support mdbs (depending on the file format version), accdbs, accde, ...
