Expected behavior when merging V4 print tickets that contain settings other than the 'defaulted 13'

    Question

  • Example:
If the user selects "more settings" from a Modern App's print pane, chooses a paper size type (ex. A4 and Glossy), presses the back button, chooses another printer from the list, that second object's 'more settings' reveal A4 and Glossy are already applied.  We know this merging is by design.

    Question:
We are looking for documentation describing the expected behavior when merging print tickets contain settings that part are NOT one of the defaulted 13 global settings (which work for every printer manufacturer).
What happens when the merging print ticket contains a specialized setting; one that is only for a specific company / device?

    Thanks!

  • The print system in the OS takes care of merging/validating the features available based on the capabilities of the selected printer when you perform the navigation within the Print Dialog in Windows Store Apps. It also makes sure that the features not applicable to a printer are not exposed in the Windows Store App’s print pane.

For the specific case you mentioned, the IHV specific settings will not be valid for a different printer and hence they won’t be shown to the user in the print pane/ the features would be removed from the PrintTicket.
