EX2007 CAS with 2003 Back End - Configuring IIS HTTP to HTTPS Redirect Problem RRS feed

  • Env:
-Exch 2007SP1 CAS introduced into existing Exch 2003 organization.
    -CAS loaded on 2008R2 Server

Following the instructions in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998359.aspx Scenario 2, I have configured my CAS with HTTP Redirect. Performing only those steps, you end up with a 403 Forbidden error when accessing HTTP, not a Redirect. After some research, I added a 403.4 Error page with a 302 redirect to https://servername/owa. This structure performs properly if I disable "Require SSL". However, this site should require SSL. After enabling "Require SSL" the OWA logon redirects to https://servername/owa/owa which of course is not a valid path.

The article includes the caveat "Therefore, you must remove redirection from all the virtual directories except the one that you want redirected," but any effort to remove HTTP Redirect settings from OWA child directories results in a "Filename \\?\BackOfficeStorage\ORG.ORG\MBX\web.config Error: Cannot write configuration file" error.

This is a fresh installation of CAS & IIS. This seems like it should be a straightforward process, and part of all public-facing OWA configurations. Any ideas would be appreciated.
