The day before yesterday, Dec 10, Windows 2003
notified me that six critical updates should be installed.

I didn't give it much thought and OK'd the install.

After the system rebooted, I got error 503 on my website : "Service Unavailable".
After uninstalling all updates, my website was back to normal.

I then re-installed all updates one at a time.

They all allowed the HTTP service on IIS 6.0 to run OK
...except the last one : KB973917, which again nuked
the HTTP service with the same 503 error message.

If you are getting error 503 "Service Unavailable"
after installing KB973917, uninstall it and your
IIS 6.0 web server will return to normal.

There are currently a couple of articles that can help you with this.

I'm downloading SP2 now but the quick fix is to uninstall KB973917.
That gets the web server up and running right away.

    Thanks !
