Chrome is Blocking Zip Files from Azure Storage RRS feed

  • Question

  • In the last few days Chrome has been discarding zip files that are stored in Azure Storage and accessed through a shared access signature link. Here's an example:

    https://landscape.blob.core.windows.net/550c9af7f72c371304c90f1d/Shapefile%20Export%206_19_2019.zip?st=2019-06-19T22%3A39%3A01Z&se=2019-07-30T22%3A39%3A00Z&sp=rl&sv=2018-03-28&sr=b&sig=A45wsVEYAohnIKmXeZPSmj9OC%2B%2FmK1cjCyZYu6lkNCI%3D

The zip file contains multiple files that make up an ESRI shapefile. I don't know if it's the contents of the zip or the zip itself that is flagging Chrome's malicious file sensors, but it is a big problem for users of my app.

    Is anyone else seeing this?

  • Hi Caleb,

I would say this issue is more related to Chrome rather than Azure Storage. You are not seeing this issue with other browsers and it is intermittent with the Chrome. So, I would recommend you to work with Chrome support to understand why Chrome is marking it as spam.

    Link:- Google chrome support

Note: The Https protocol over which Azure storage will accept the SAS and the secure way to download files. We recommend allowing requests over Https only.

  • Hey Caleb,

I'm able to download the zip files through the chrome without any discard(malicious) notification. Please try the same from other browsers and update the chrome as well. If you still face the same issue please let us know.

You can also check the similar kind of issue related to chrome query here. See if that helps you!

  • Hi, Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this just means the problem is even harder to figure out. Because today, my posted link works for me too, whereas it didn't yesterday. And, new links are not working today. This one, for example, will probably timeout before you can try it, but it fails for me:

I am using the most updated Chrome: 75.0.3770.100.

No, other browsers don't have the problem.

I can't recommend turning off the Chrome feature to my customers.

  • Thanks,

I understand the issue probably has nothing to do with Azure, but I was just looking for anyone who had experienced it and possibly understood the cause. I appreciate you looking at it.

Chrome "support" is a black hole.
