Regarding the probe request Frame RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

I am developing the native wifi driver (Windows 7,ndis 6.0) for my network adapter. I have the following question...

Operating system is not giving any information related to Probe Request Information Elements(uIEsOffset =0,uIEsLength=0) in the DOT11_SCAN_REQUEST_V2 structure, when it has set the OID_DOT11_SCAN_REQUEST. What needs to be done in the driver to make windows to give probe request IEs which are necessary.

    or

Does the driver need to fill the the probe request IEs (which it supports) and should indicate to the OS using uIEsOffset in the DOT11_SCAN_REQUEST_V2

    Thanks in advance...

  • The uIEsOffset points to additional IEs to add to the scan request.  If there are no additional IEs to add, then you just send the usual fixed-length IEs required by 802.11.

Windows 7 doesn't typically send probe requests with additional IEs; the feature is only used in certain scenarios.  Use the HCK to thoroughly exercise this feature.
