  • Hello,

DTS has been discontinued and not supported on SQL Server 2012 or later. You cannot migrate or running them on SQL Server 2012. You may have to upgrade those DTS to SQL Server 2008 R2 first, and then upgrade them to SQL Server 2012.

About SSIS packages, please read the following:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh667275.aspx

Cube browser in Management Studio and Cube Designer has been removed.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks , So How can I migrate dts stuff to SS 2008 , do you mean recreating it  as SSIS package? I think I can do samething in SS 2012 too.

Do we have any step by step guide for this migration somewhere?

Alberto is correct to say its not supported and same is written in link which I gave but I did not mentioned it so sorry for that. Below link can be used to migrate DTS packages to SSIS

  • Hi,

You must follow Side by side approach.I could tell you about database and SSIS but for SSAS and SSRS you should post your question in relevant forums.

    1. Get a new windows box.

2 Install SQL Server 2012 on it.

3 Migrate databases using backup and restore, this will move all your procedures, triggers and other database objects

    4. Migrate logins using this link

5 Migrate jobs using this link

6 Migrate DTS packages using this link

Test your application functionality by redirecting it to SQL Server 2012.You should consider rebuilding indexes and updating stats before making application live.

All this time your original server is untouched. After testing when you are OK with 2012 point application to 2012 and you are good to go.Please don't decommission 2005 let it be there for couple of weeks ..just in case
