Change maximum memory for SQL RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

I want to change the maximum allocated memory for the SQL Server via SSMS. Is the server needed to be restarted after the change? Will it have any impact on online activities?

    Thanks.

  • I assume you not talking about reducing the max memory value, but increasing it.

Is the server needed to be restarted after the change?

    No

    EXEC sys.sp_configure N'max server memory (MB)', N'5096'

    GO

    RECONFIGURE WITH OVERRIDE

    GO

Will it have any impact on online activities?

If you increasing it. then i don't thing it impact  any on-line activity

if you reducing the max memory, then i won't recommend it doing during production hours.

I will do it only during off hours, and i will make sure nobody is connected to system .
