[MS-MDE] Win 8.1: What is the Functional use of "SslClientCertReference" param in Enrollment Provisioning XML? RRS feed

  • Question

  • What is the functional use of the Param "SslClientCertReference" and where to get the Characteristic type mentioned below?

    <characteristic type="HKLM\Security\Provisioning\OMADM\Accounts\037B1F0D3842015588E753CDE76EC724">
    <parm name="SslClientCertReference" value="My;System;B692158116B7B82EDA4600FF4145414933B0D5AB" datatype="string" />
    </characteristic>

    This piece of XML is taken from MS-MDE document of Windows 8.1.

    Which document will explain the contents of the Provisioning XML that has to be sent as response to WSTEP request of Windows 8.1 Enrollment protocol?

  • Hello Sumanth -

    The only variable portion i.e. B692158116B7B82EDA4600FF4145414933B0D5AB in SslClientCertReference parameter is CertificateThumbprint. You need to get this thumbprint value from issued certificate.

    Alternatively, it can be expressed like following string -
    <parm name=""SslClientCertReference"" value=""My;System;$CertificateThumbprint$"" datatype=""string"" />

    Regards

  • Thanks for the answer. But, I didnt get the answer for the documentation.

    Is there any document available that talks about the Provisioning XML nodes and its uses?

  • I believe you are talking about following provisioning XML - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn365953.aspx. As stated the explanation of each field appears inline in this section. We don't have any other protocol specification explaining these nodes\fields.
