DB diagram RRS feed

  • Question

  • As part of documentation, I have created a database diagram using MS Visio (db has 250+ tables). And converted to pdf format.
But the tables and relations are not that much clear to present to some non-technical guys.

Is there any way in MS SQL to produce or export the schema?

I need schema to be properly documented. Thanks!

  • Hi Kishore,

Have you tried to use MS Visio to draw a Database Model Diagram which describes the Entity Relationships? And Visio could transform this Database Model Diagram to Database Diagram in SQL Server.I guess E-R diagram is quite clear for end user to understand the Database.

  • Kishore,

You have to use a third party tool to present your DB diagram to a NON-Techincal guys.

You can use MS SQL Diagram but it is all technical as well.

How would you want to present a database diagram to non technical people? What format? I think MS Visio is a good tool along with table/relationship description

  • Thank you all.

    Yes.

I used MS Visio to create a db diagram. But user (Non-Techie) is saying it is clear to understand. I even created a database dictionary using RedGate SQL Doc , which will have table and coulmns descriptions and schema details.

But user is saying he need the diagram in JPEG format.

Any idea of third party tools to create a db diagram for non-techie's

    Thank you..
