Have %complete drive schedule dates RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there any way to have %complete drive dates? so if I finish a task earlier it pulls the schedule in. If the duration pushes or percent does not move it pushes the date? Thanks!

  • Hi,

The % complete just can update the actual work and actual start date (thus start date also). Then you have to update the remaining work wich will update the finish date.

This is a best practice since a % complete just tells you how much you have done versus the overall amount of work. It doesn't tell you how much you have left in order to complete the task, thus the finish date cannot be triggered by a finish date.

    Hope this helps,

In addition to Guillaume's comment, it should be noted that the % Complete field is duration based while the % Work Complete field is work based. in most cases the two values track, but not always. For instance, if a task is fixed duration but the work is not linearly spread across the full duration.

You might find it useful to add each of those fields to your Gantt Chart view. Then hover you mouse over the field heading and hit F1 for a more detailed explanation.
