VB.net and MCTS Certification Question RRS feed

  • Question

  • Yeah, I'm looking to get a few certifications.  A few jobs I've looked at say they want asp.net/vb.net certifications.  Does the MCTS: ASP.net track cover both?  Or would I need to take the MCTS: Windows exam as well?  What tests do I need?

Can I potentially pass the MCTS: ASP.net track using books with my regular experience just basic programming Ruby on Rails/HTML/CSS and this kind of stuff?

  • hi Brock F ,

If they looked for asp.net/vb.net certification i.e They are looking for M.C.T.S (web application) for that you have to pass following exam

Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (Web Applications )

      70-536 (Microsoft® .NET Framework 2.0 - Application Development Foundation)

      70-528 (Microsoft® .NET Framework 2.0 - Web-based Client Development)

(For the above exam you should choose only one language {vb.net or C#} i.e during certification exam you have to choose your language as VB.net, because you have mentioned VB.NET)

Skills measured : (syllabus for certification exam)

    For Window Application:

You have to pass both exam

Exam 70–536 : TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 – Application Development Foundation

    Exam 70–526 : TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 – Windows-Based Client Development

  • Hi,
If  you are looking for ASP.NET, you can write the exam for MCTS ASP.NET. You will have one core exam (MCTS 70-536) for MCTS. Then for each technology you have to clear exams for each( MCTS for Window Application, Web Application, Distributed Application, etc...). For all these the core exam is the same. You can chek it in the following link and will be able to find out which and all exams are required for you.
