Playback Coded UI Test without install VS2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I plan to setup a testing machine to run the coded UI test script (recorded by VS2010 Premium Edition)

but I want NOT TO INSTALL VS2010 and I have following questions

    1. I know that we can install the Test Agents (with MSTest.exe) to run the Coded UI Test. But can Test Agents run alone? I don't want to install TFS or MTM as it include extra H/W and license...

    2. Is MSBuild included in Test Agents installation?

    3. Any other prerequisite software need to install for Test Agents?

    Thx alot

  • Hello,

For question 1, you can install the Test Agent to execute CodedUI Tests without having the complete VSTS setup. You don’t need to install TFS/MTM on the test agent machine. But you need .Net Framework 4. For more information, please see: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/vstudio/ff937706(v=vs.100).aspx

For question2, since I don’t have enough environment to install test agent separately, in my opinion MSBuild will not be in the Test Agent installation. You can install it to check if MSBuild exists. As far as I know, we can get MSBuild through installing Visual Studio or .Net Framework.

For question 3, as I mentioned above, you need to install .Net Framework 4.0 if you want to install test agent.

    Thanks,

  • Hello,

As far as I know, Test Controller2010 and Test Agent2010 are standalone and installing Test Controller2010 and Test Agent 2010 needs license. • More questions

    - Test Agents is a free tools or we need to explicitly buy license? if license is required, is it per host or per other scheme?

    - If we want to install the Test Controller that control remote Test Agents, is there any standalone version of Test Controller, is it free of charge or need license? and where can I found the pricing scheme?
