    I have a web application  project - when i try to rebuild it works perfect

    but when i try to do publish the request failed -it happen on bin folder.

    Here is the result of the publish:

    Publishing folder VR...
    Publishing folder VR/skins...
    Publishing folder VR/skins/playerSkin...
    Publishing folder bin...
    ========== Build: 1 succeeded or up-to-date, 0 failed, 0 skipped ==========
    ========== Publish: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 skipped ==========

    it does not give any reason why its happen.

    I am understand that publish does not have to publish buin folder  - what i have to here?

    The bin folder is not under source control annd i don't know what the reason of that.

    I used vs2008 c#

    Check that the bin folder has permissions for the user you are using. Aslo are you using Vista, if so run VS2008 as administrator. I'm taking a wild guess here, but check the read-only attributes of the bin folder. Change it to no-readonly, it will reset it self after you've built the solution. Also check that no other process is holding onto a dll or something in your referrence folder. Check that only 1 instance of VS is running. Kill the virtual apps in your quick launch (bottom right next to the clock in xp)

    Hi Yossi, I am facing the same problem.

    Did you get the solution? What could be the cause of the problem?

    This problem has been created for some items that been deleted from out of Visual Studio. If you delete those items in Visual Studio,  problem solves.

    I've got the same problem - I can't publish web application - always the same:

    Output window:

    ========== Build: 1 succeeded or up-to-date, 0 failed, 0 skipped ==========
    ========== Publish: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 skipped ==========

    In that case the problem is missed file in Solution Expolorer. Probably i've deleted it directly from solution folder, and forgot remove it from solution explorer window. Try to check your solusion file list, and if you have a small exclamation near by any file name (look at screen below) - that is the problem - just try to remove them. That should be help.

    Please enabled the detailed logging of the build out put, it will give the exact error why publish is failing.

    In my case, file name was exceeding 256 characters and MSBuild does not like it.

    Follow these steps to enable the detailed logging in build output

    To change the amount of information included in the build log

    • On the menu bar, choose Tools, Options.
    • On the Projects and Solutions page,
    • choose the Build and Run page.
    • In the MSBuild project build output verbosity list, choose Detailed and then choose the OK button.
