SSRS - 'Tile Server Timeout', 'Thread was being aborted' RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

I am using the SSRS map-control to load a Bing Maps layer on a report. The map is about 8x13 inches.

When running the report for multiple times (~1,000) in a row, I am periodically getting errors where some of the tiles are failing to load due to either a 'Tile server timeout' or a 'Thread being aborted' error.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  • There is a number of possible reasons why this may happen. Firewalls/proxy servers are a common failure point. Additionally, given the number of reports you are generating their is over 20K map tile requests. If these reports are being generated automatically it is likely that the shear number of requests from a single network is causing the issue. The SSRS mapping functionality could potentially add a function to retry downloading a tile if it fails, however this could cause other issues if a tile isn't available at all.

Note that SSRS is not supported by the Bing Maps team. The mapping functionality in SSRS was created and is supported by the SQL reporting team.
