save as release RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • One thing that drives me nuts is when users make edits to documents with track changes on and then send them out as an official release.  People who receive the documents open them up and are presented with a very unprofessional surprise of edits and margin comments depending on whether their track changes defaults to view final with markup.

Office needs a "save as release" option that would perform some routine checks, such as accepting all changes and deleting all review commentary, and saving a sanitized version of the file to send out.

Obviously in most cases, you want to send PDF's or some such, but I find in our environment, there are legitimate reasons to send word documents to other parties who may not (or should not) be privy to internal discussion.

"save as release" would sit right under "save as" working effectivly as a reminder to users that they need to clean up before sending out.

    End rant.

  • There is an option called "Warn before printing, saving or sending a file that contains tracked changes or comments" that you can enable in File tab | Options | Trust Center | Trust Center Settings | Privacy Options.
