Silverlight 5 on Windows Phone 8? ( not Windows 8) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I tried to run the Microsoft Smooth Streaming Player in my application. I downloaded the player from below url and followed the Read Me (Smooth Streaming Player-ReadMe.doc) document and created the player.

    http://smf.blob.core.windows.net/downloads/SMF_2_2012_0605_0/smoothstreamingplayer-2.2012.0605.0.zip

When I run the app it shows, "To view this content, please install Microsoft Silverlight. How can I play the video. I tried the following thread, but unable to solve the issue.

    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/silverlight/en-US/63e84a1c-cd07-4909-8fc1-d43ae8fc82a4/silverlight-5-on-windows-phone-8-not-windows-8

But, When I open the sample video url in the thread (http://channel9.msdn.com/ ) in Internet Explore browser in the Phone it works. But video didn't work in my HTML based app.

    Thanks,

    Salik

  • You can't run Silverlight 5 on a phone.

As it says in that thread you linked.

You can't run a regular Silverlight application on windows phone.

This is because there is no plug-in.

If you look at the list of Silverlight supported os and browsers:

    http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/get-started/install/default.aspx#

There is no windows phone on that list.

    Hope that helps.
