Migrating 2 databases from SQL server 2000 to SQL Server 2008 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

i Have to migrate two databases from SQL SERVER 2000 to SQL SERVER 2008 R2. I am planning to take a back up from 2000 and restore it on 2008. I am clear on this part. I also know that I might need to remap the logins, update statistics after the restore. But the only proble I have is which follows what. can anyone give me a step by step procedure of what needed to be done for migrating 2000 to 2008 R2?

  • Upgrade Advisor can detect syntactical problems with your queries if they are in stored procedures, text files or trace files. However, this is a static analysis so some things can be missed. Remember that just because you can create and/or compile a statement, doesn't mean it will run.

Upgrade Assistant provides an easier way to test for application compatiblity issues by testing the execution. The helpfile provides guidance on how to do this or you can read the wiki content from the link.
