In what situation we need pending an IO operation RRS feed

  • All, I just read the doc here about pending IO operation in the preoperation , But seems I didn't understand it well. and didn't know in what situation we need do this .

    Hope someone who have used this to share me with the real scenario. thanks.

  • As I answered in another thread to you, there are lots of situations where you may need to do something like this.  A few examples:

    1.  A filter doing continuous backup where the request is pended till the data is written to a log file or to an additional volume.

    2.  An encryption filter that uses hardware encryption where requests are queued to be submitted to the hardware.

    Holding a request then allowing it to go down the stack later is a very common model in Windows drivers, the list can go on and on and is only limited by the imagination of the driver writer and the situation.
