Is there a way to use Visual Studio to compile macOS c++ projects ?

    Question

  • There is information about cross platform mobile development using VS 2015, there is now VS for Mac.

My question is: Is there a way to use VS to compile C++/ObjC projects for mac OS ?

If not, is there any plans to do so ?

    Thank you

  • Hi pixel,

According to information from Visual Studio for Mac Preview download site, it could "Build apps for the cloud, iOS, Android, macOS, and wearables".

    https://www.visualstudio.com/vs/visual-studio-mac/

And it also mentioned that it supports "Native apps for iOS, watchOS, tvOS and macOS" in following link.

    https://developer.xamarin.com/visual-studio-mac/

If you want to use current version of Visual Studio 2015, you need to choose Platform Toolset as XCode as below screenshot shows in C++ Project Properties page. It will allow you compile your C++ project for macOS.

But if you want to debug this app, you need to deploy it to an iOS device through Visual Studio.

    Best Regards,
    Weiwei
