Different package name for different build configurations

    Question

  • Our publisher has a requirement that Debug and Release builds of our game have different package names in Package.appxmanifest.  I have tried MSBuild hacks and other approaches to get this to happen, but it would appear that this is not a supported scenario.

    Any ideas?  I'm really trying to avoid manually editing the package name in the Package.appxmanifest file each time I switch build configurations.

  • I can't think of any good solution for this. You could try setting up two Package.appxmanifests and then swapping the right one in a pre-build step.

  • I can't think of any good solutions either.  All made more fun because we use Perforce for source control which makes everything read-only.  The irony is that the publisher asking for this is Microsoft.
