How To Do Lookup Additional Columns With Spaces In The Column Name? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have noticed that when I create a lookup column on a list that the additional column's values will not be filled if the additonal columns have spaces in their names.

Is there any way around this?

And, yes, I agree, spaces in list names are annoying and something I would normally never do. I know I can create the list column without spaces and then change it afterwards, so it retains it's original non-space name, but is displayed with spaces, but then how can you easily find out what the actual name is? The only way I could find was by hovering over the link to the list column in the list settings in the browser.

  • Hi,

from your description i guess you will do that programmatically?

SharePoint replaces space with _x0020_ for the properties.

Using the user interface i haven't seen a problem with this.

    Kind regards
    Stefan
