How to determine if Windows Developer Preview is connected to 3G/4G Network? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a way to know whether Windows 8 is connected to 3G/4G network?

I looked at INetworkConnectCost interface, but there is no information on how to get to that interface.

    Please point to right documentation.

  • If you are running Windows 7 PC that could run on 3G or 4G network , most likely Windows 8 could run too.

Note that Windows 8 is in pre-Beta stage and you there would be annoucements about features that it will support by Windows Team.

  • Hey Vishnu V,

If you are connected to a Mobile broadband you will see the network displayed when you click the network icon in the taskbar or click the network icon in the Settings charm as displayed below:

You can choose to enable or disable a mobile broadband connection in the Metro style Control Panel. The steps below will guide you to that setting:

    • Enter the Start screen
    • Click Control Panel
    • Click Wireless in the left column

There you will find the slider for Mobile broadband if your computer supports mobile broadband and the installed drivers are allowing the device to work properly in Windows Developer Preview.

    Hope that helps.

i,e from win32 application.   Is there any COM interface available for querying whether Win 8 is connected to mobile broadband?

  • Hey Vishnu V,

The Windows Developer Preview: General OS questions forum is focused on non-development questions and issues with the Windows Developer Preview. If you are trying to develop a Metro style application that would have the ability to check to see if the computer is connected to a mobile broadband connection, the experts in the Tailoring your Metro style app for hardware and devices forum may be able to help.

Also you can see all of the Windows Developer Preview related forums by opening the page linked below.
