Visual Studio site root config visibility during precompile of web application

    Question

  • We have a site root web.config, where some sections are declared which are then populated in the app web.config.  When I attempt to pre-compile the web form application with Visual Studio (2015), it throws an error and fails to compile.  The message is "unrecognized configuration section", which I interpret to mean that it can't see the section declaration that is in the site root config.  Is there a way to tell Visual Studio where the site root config is, so that the precompile will work, or some other way around this?

  • Hi TracetTiethoff,

Please create a new website without these sections in your Web.config, whether it also has this issue?

If works fine with new website without these sections, please try add these sections one by one into Web.config. It can help us make sure which section causes the error.

If new website without these sections also has this issue, the problem is not caused by the Web.config. Please try repair your Visual Studio to check whether there has something wrong with your Visual Studio.

If possible, please share a sample project/code snippet to help us reproduce the problem in our side. Then we can find out what happened in your code/config file.

    Best Regards,
    Weiwei
