Map not drawn RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

we have a .NET application, which is using bing maps. at the moment it draws the markers fine, however the map does not show up and displays a white screen saying "The specified Bing Maps key is invalid, refer to....." now i know the key clearly works as I can see the report that it has made requests and that we have markers.

Any idea why the map itself does not get drawn?

    Regards,

    Ben

  • The Bing Maps platform is working. Several possible issues could be causing this:

    • Your Bing Maps key is disable, or has exceeded the free terms of use (if a basic key).
    • If you have an enterprise key/account, it is possible that your contract has expired and your account disabled. If you have an enterprise account, contact the Bing Maps Enterprise support team and they can dig into this: https://www.microsoft.com/maps/support.aspx
    • Something is blocking the map from connecting to the internet. Potentially a firewall or proxy server. Try using the map on a different network to see if the issue persists.

  • Hi Ricky,

    Thanks for your reply.

    1) How do i find out if the key has exceeded it's free terms (Basic Key)

    2) If it is a firewall, do you know the exception i should make on it to allow the map to be shown?

    Regards,

    Ben

  • 1) You can log into the Bing Maps portal (https://www.bingmapsportal.com) then go to My Account - > Usage Reports. If your account has more than 125,000 transactions in a year, then it is has exceeded the free terms of use.

    2) Contact the Bing Maps Enterprise Support team and they will provide a list of domains to allow through your firewall: https://www.microsoft.com/maps/support.aspx

  • Hi Ricky,

but surely the points would not get drawn, which they do. it's simply the Background image (Map) that does not get drawn.

    Ben

  • Think we have solved it, we changed the proxy server :)
