visual studio 2008 & windows mobile sdk RRS feed

  • Question

  • hi,
i just bought visual studio 2008 standard edition to develop windows mobile software.
windows mobile sdk clearly states i have to have msvc 2005 sp1 or later installed.
is it so that it has to be 2005 and 2008 is not one of those "later" versions which are required to install sdk?
actually i tried to find msvc2005, but it seems that no store is selling other than professional versions anymore and unfortunately the price of that version is way above my budget.
    all advice highly appreciated

  • Hi opelkonen,

VS 2005 Standard edition does support mobile device development while VS 2008 Standard doesn't.

  • As far as I know, VS 2008 standard doesn't support Smart Device Development, but pro edition supports.

  • Ok, it seems microsoft has little bit misleading and/or inconsistent information in their developer pages.

Straight from system requirements in windows mobile sdk download page:
"Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, Standard Edition or above (Express Editions are not supported). SP1 recommended."
