Restoring a 30GB database takes 4 hours RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

Below is a small description the enviornment:-

    1) 3 Win 2008 R2 virtual servers with the latest patches. (8 GB Ram, 4 vCPU's)

    2) All the servers have SQL 2008 R2 installed with all the patches.

One of the servers has sharepoint server installed with sharepoint database add in and SQL Reporting services installed on the same.

Now the issue is if we try to restore a database 30GB on server1 without sharepoint, the restore takes around 30 mins.

The same database when copied to the server with the sharepoint installed takes 4 hours of restore.

All the servers are on a iSCSI datastore RAID 5 with 8+1 spindle.

We are not sure if there is some application which holds the I/O. The server performance isn't bad at all. It is only the restore which is taking a long time.

I would appreciate any help or suggestion.
